"나의 아버지는 아마추어 사진작가로, 우리가 살던 곳에 카메라 클럽을 설립할 만큼 열정적이셨다. 단순히 사진을 찍는 것에 그치는 것이 아니라 자신이 직접 만든 다락방 암실에서 현상과 인화작업을 손수 하셨다. 아버지께서 사진작업을 하시는 동안 나는 자주 그 옆에 앉아 있곤 했다. 11살 되던 해 아버지로부터 처음으로 카메라를 선물 받았는데, 코닥 레티네트였던 것 같다. 카메라를 선물 받은 이후로 나는 바로 사진 찍기를 시작했고, 지금까지 멈추지 않고 계속돼오고 있다.

나는 카메라를 마치 사진 일기처럼 사용하는데, 모든 내 사진들은 보이는 것들과 순간을 즉석에서 포착한 사진들이다. 반면 아버지의 사진들에는 훨씬 더 많은 고민이 들어가 있는데, 가령 풍광에 아름다운 구름이 드리울 때까지 기다리거나 혹은 오브제를 비추는 태양의 구도를 철저히 계산해서 찍는 식이었다. 내 사진은 매우 즉각적이다. 나는 지금도 항상 카메라를 들고 다닌다. 내가 만약 디자이너가 되지 않았다면 사진작가가 되었을 것이다. "

"My father was an amateur photographer and in fact he was the founder or the local camera club where we lived. He of course used film and did all his own developing and printing in a home-made dark room in the attic of our house. I often used to sit with him while he was creating his photographs. At the age of 11 he bought me my first camera, I think it was a Kodak Retinette.

I started taking photographs immediately and basically never stopped. I use my camera as a visual diary and all my photographs are very spontaneous. Just things seen, the caught moment. My work is the same as my father's, but his was far more considered, with him often waiting some time for the perfect cloud in a landscape, or the positing of the sun on the object he wanted to photograph. Mine is more instant, I always carry a camera. If I hadn't been a designer, maybe I would be a photographer. "
